“Pan American Day is marked on April 14 every year. The day celebrates the First International Conference of the American States, which took place on April 14, 1890, and resulted in the formation of the International Union of American Republics. It was the precursor to the Organization of American States (OAS). The day was first commemorated on April 14, 1930, after the organization proposed it in 1930. This day is often celebrated with parades, plays, orchestra performances, art displays, and pageants.”

Meet Cindy Loya @lacindyart a Mixed Media Artist of Mexican American heritage. Born in America and spending most of her childhood living in Mexico, Loya now resides in the Denver, Colorado area where she creates art inspired by feminism, the complexities of being Mexican American, and the beauty of nature.

Loya’s art is a fusion of personal history and universal themes. She aims to bridge connections and evoke recognition among those embracing their own duality and diverse experiences. Utilizing an array of mediums including paint, paper, textiles, and digital tools for illustrations, Loya weaves together diverse elements in her art. Her pieces serve as storytelling devices, bridging connections to heritage and community, inspiring others to engage with their roots through artistic expression.

Semana Santa is the final week of Lent, a holy wee

Semana Santa is the final week of Lent, a holy week before Easter. In many Latin American countries, Semana Santa is celebrated in a variety of ways. In some countries, such as Mexico, it is common for people to dress up as religious figures and perform plays of the biblical Easter story. In many countries, cities will hold candlelight processions the night before Easter Sunday. In Guatemala, a Semana Santa custom involves citizens creating carpets made of colorful sawdust in the streets the night before a religious procession. During the religious processions, statues of Mary and Jesus are carried through the streets over the sawdust carpets.

Terri Lynn Cruz is a World Title winning professional boxer from Raton, New Mexico. Cruz began her professional boxing career in Denver, Colorado and was a professional boxer for over fifteen years. Before retiring in 2011, Cruz boxed in Colorado, Texas, South Dakota, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, South Korea, Germany, and Australia. With a total of 26 fights and 130 rounds, she retired with a professional record of 17-7-2.

@alexpaulloza is an artist based out of Chattanooga, TN. Loza takes stories and transforms them into art in various forms, including sculptures, public monuments, portraits, and murals. Loza recognizes the power of figurative narrative art and its ability to resonate with diverse peoples and advocate for social justice.

Loza’s art has gained recognition from multiple esteemed organizations. Loza has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, been commissioned to create a sculpture by McKee Foods, and created the award statuette for the Bessie Smith Cultural Center’s annual Bessie Smith Legacy Gala Award. Loza was also selected by the Thaddeus Stevens Society to create a historic bronze monument of U.S. Representative and “Father of the 14th Amendment” Thaddeus Stevens, making him the first Latino artist to contribute to Gettysburg’s renowned collection of over 1,300 outdoor sculptures
